Tales From Ghost-Wood
This performance lecture explores the role of plants as mediators of realms and guides for navigating seasonless times.
The talk will present new work from my award wining research project Ghosts of the Great North Wood: Alchemising Ecological Grief - a project that explores the intersection of ecology and esotericism through art practice. Drawing on the structure of the fairytale and forest as cultural container the talk will explore the alchemical potential of both the fairytale and woodland as vessels for transmutation. The title Ghost-Wood references the partially extant ancient woodland of SE London that stretches between Deptford and Croydon.
Bio
Natasha Viosna Moody - she/her, is a British/Polish artist and educator from South East London. Working across sculpture, installation, photography and writing she explores the intersecting realms of art, ecology and esotericism. Her fascination with the intertwined histories of occulture, art and science materialises as an alchemical practice where transmuted plant material becomes a conduit for ecological reflections and mystical encounters.
She is the recipient of the inaugural RENSEP Artist Award for her project: Ghosts of the Great North Wood: Alchemising Ecological Grief. She has exhibited her work and presented her research both locally and internationally from her debut solo exhibtion The Living Light of Other Worlds (SEAGER, 2024) to presenting her research project Notes from Ghostwood at The Aesthetics of Esoteric Practices: Materialities, Performances, Senses at Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice, in Nov 2024. She graduated from Goldsmiths with an MA in Art and Ecology in 2022 and The University of Edinburgh with MA Fine Art and History of Art in 2020.
